From Maiden to Mother: My Journey to Becoming the Mom I Want to Be

Becoming a mother is one of the most profound transitions a woman can experience. For some, this transformation is carefully planned and guided. For others, like in my case, it’s a leap into the unknown, driven by intuition, love, and the desire to create a home where my children grow surrounded by respect, affection, and awareness.

I’m Eliana López communicator, artist, mother of two boys, and creator of Mukupati Path , The Mukupati Way, a space to reflect on motherhood, conscious parenting, and the leadership it takes to be a mom.

My story begins in Venezuela, but love brought me to San Francisco, United States. Here, I not only had to adapt to a new culture and learn a new language, but I also did so while going through the most important transition of my life: becoming a mother.

I chose to give birth at home because I wanted to own my birthing experience. I wanted to create a safe and loving environment where my child would be born surrounded by the people who loved him most. That decision was my first step toward something much bigger: moving from being the girl who follows instructions to becoming the woman who charts her own path and leads the way.

But it wasn’t all easy. The distance from my family—especially my mom—made me feel alone. I missed my tribe of women, their advice, their stories, and their wisdom. I realized I wasn’t the only one; many mothers are far from their support network and have to learn to raise their children in solitude.

Motherhood confronts us with challenges we never planned for: breastfeeding, sleep, potty training, boundaries, tantrums. Our children push buttons inside us we didn’t even know existed. Without a map—or an intentional conversation about the kind of mother we want to be—we often end up repeating the very patterns we swore we wouldn’t.

Being a mother is also being a leader, advocate, and defender. It’s learning to listen to your intuition, even when outside voices—doctors, family, society—tell you otherwise. It’s moving from passive obedience to active decision-making, always grounded in love and awareness.

That’s why I created Mukupati Path—to walk alongside other mothers in this transformation. Here, we’ll talk about how to build our personal roadmap, how to use language with our children, how to set healthy routines and boundaries, and how to stay connected to our intuition.

If any part of my story resonates with you, I invite you to join me on this journey. We can become the mothers we truly want to be, raise more conscious children, and leave them a world with fewer wounds and more love.
