There are only a few places in San Francisco for children's clothing. They all tend to be very special with their mission and experience, but two served me well when I was pregnant and had my boys.Â
One of these places was Natural Resources, celebrating 35 years this month! Natural Resources was founded by Deborah Jackson and Chris Pritchard on March 21, 1988. They believe that pregnant people should have "the natural resources to be informed, responsible, and creative during this time of great personal transformation."
As a new mom-to-be in 2009, I felt lonely and isolated when I arrived in San Francisco. My husband worked long hours, and I had to adapt to a new city, culture, and language. The language was tough because I love to talk and suddenly felt I had to be silent. I lacked the vocabulary to express my long, complex ideas and feelings. Everybody around me was very patient and supportive, but that did not take away the significant internal struggles I was having as a pregnant woman.Â

Natural Resources was one of the refugees I found. There, I found my beloved midwife, Sue Baelen, and decided I wanted to have a home birth, a new concept coming from Venezuela, where the standard practice was to schedule a C-section. I found support, guidance, and a community at Natural Resources. A community that is still present in my life 14 years later.Â
The other place I found community was at Sprout on Union st. I found all these new brands I was unfamiliar with, all of these are well-researched and sustainable. Natural Resources and Sprout helped me realize how important it was to listen to my intuition and heart when making decisions about parenting my boys and how to parent them consciously.Â

These two places guided me in protecting my boys using sustainable and organic natural fibers while providing the best products for our family.
